14 Indian flapshell turtles rescued

Haa long days for posting. I had been to my home city for an holiday. I was on a tour to local villages. As i was passing trough a village called kesavaram. I had noticed about 40+ fishermen were catching fish with a net. Suddenly one fisherman threw a turtle to the bank and a local took it and kept in a bag. After few minutes another turtle was thrown to the bank and some body took it.
I had realized that the locals are eating the turtles also. another turtle was thrown on to the bank and one person took it. I caught him by his shirt collar and handed over the turtle. I shouted at the fishermen if they catch the turtles i will send them to the jail.
They thought that i was from the forest department and handed over the turtles to me. 18 turtles were caught in the net and four were taken by the locals remaining 14 were released back to the pond after the fishing completed.

Rescue at Balanagar Industirial estate

Yesterday i got a call from satyanand fo Snakecell at around 6.00 p.m. for a rescue at Balanagar. I had called the no he had forwarded. They said that there is an brown color small snake was struck between there office cabin. I thought it might be an wolf snake and started immediately with the help of my friend vamsi. I had reached the place with in 20 min. The manager of the factory received us and took us to their factory. When i entered the office i was surprised to find an Bronze back tree snake gliding on the wall. I sprung into action and caught by its tail. He did bit me, but very gently. I had made a bag with the cloth given by the office people and stitched it into a bag(gunny bag stitching machine). Haa my first official rescue with Snakecell team.

Dry month

Not encountered much wild life these days attended 2 rescue missions. But can"t rescue them . one has slipped before i had reached there and the other one was in a rat hole that had too many passages(2 to 3 acres of land). attended an demo program conducted at botanical gardens for Rao's techno school.

On The Rescue mission

yesterday i had reached the zoo after the first demo as i had some pending work in the college. shaikat had handed over my identity card. He was confident on my handling and sent me for the rescue with ramakrishna at alwyn colony kukatpally. It was a long drive for us. we had just reached alwyn colony and inquiring about the address of the caller. we got an call from him that it had been killed. I felt very sorry that we were just late by 5 mins.we went there and found that it is an checkered keelback. The person who killed it was aware that it is an non-poisonous snake. Even though he killed it. We are returning back to the zoo. We got a call from shaikat to attend another rescue in attapur. Ramakrishna had already attempted the rescue day before day and left it as the snake was hiding in a rat hole and impossible to rescue. Me and Ramakrishna had reached the spot and saw a head peeping out of the hole. We identified it as an rat snake and jumped immediately into action. The snake was hiding in the hole for the last 2 days and not venturing out(as per the people said). We found that i might not have any other entrance to exit. we had cleared the shrubs and plants near it and tried to locate it. But it is not visible. we dug a hole enough to peep into the hole(an hour effort 3feet wide). The rat snake was hiding in the hole comfortably and made its home. The adjacent house owners are trowing garbage into the plot. So the rat snake got full food (rats) that's why it is not leaving the area. After some time we found that it is impossible to rescue as the hole got deeper into the house basement and the snake is not visible. we had educated the house owner that its harmless. They said that they will not bother living adjacent to a ratsnake. we were happy for that and returned back to the our houses

handling class on 23-1-11

I had reached yesterday to Hyderabad(a painful journey) to attend the handling class by snakecell at the rescue center kuntloor. I had reached kuntloor by 11.00 am. we had later handled the snakes. I had handled an checkered keelback(without head catch) gently. I had expected an bite from this fellow and prepared for that. But this fellow was so gentle and did not bite. Later i had handled an small juvenile cobra and a large aggressive cobra. Later me and our team had went for an field trip adjacent to the vanasthali deer park. We had encountered some peacocks, a wild hare, a scorpion and a rock gecko.

Trek in Easternghats

I had been to my home city for some personal reasons. these 10days are so dry that i had not encountered a single wildlife. Mean while saw so many program mes on the NG,Discovery and animal planet.Last day before i returned back to the Hyderabad. Me and my friend had trekked to the eastern ghats 50km from my home city (near papikondalu wild life sanctuary.) In our 5 hours trek we did spot only an large centipede(around 18 cm(yellow and black bands just like banded krait) some macaque's and langur's). We returned back early as we were completely climbing the hill for the last 3 hours and we got dehydrated and our energy levels were decreased. So sad that we were not well prepared for the trek. I wish go again and conquer the hill next time.

Ophio demo at the zoo

As usual but not late today. Reached early and entered the reptile world. Astonished to see work(expansion of smaller doors to bigger ones)going on. Helped Niteesh to shift checkered keelback from one enclosure to a box. Today i had handled the green wine snake.
